Harmony Warmbloods
2008 News

December 20 – Combined Harmony Clinic
This day turned out so well as riders were able to devote time to their flatwork and dressage in the morning and then move on to the fences in the afternoon. And some riders only participated in their desired discipline which worked out great as well! I’m excited to use these clinics as training grounds for those who want to take their competitive side to a new level – a great time to watch other riders and to create a team environment. A definite stepping stone towards a successful 2009!

December 13, 14 – Lisa Wilcox Clinic – Flying Colours Stables
Lisa makes it look easy! An exhilarating weekend of watching a two-time team silver medalist, and individual bronze Olympic medalist take the day-to-day exercises and add the international touch of experience. Exceptionally hosted by FCS – they kept us warm, well-fed and definitely cultivated a top level experience! Kudos!!

November 1, 2 Gillian Sutherland Clinic – Flying Colours Stables
Every clinic seems to move our dressage to another level! I’m very excited about the ventures of training over the winter season. Chino has become much rounder with more throughness and strength from the hind end. We made our debut into the world of flying changes, half pass, and ended with huge medium trot work!

October 4 / 5 Harmony Horse Show IV
We definitely lucked out on the weather this year with beautiful fall sunshine and colors!! We also had a wonderful group of riders, all full of enthusiasm and a competitive spirit. Our judges were very informative to the riders and we were able to thank our sponsors Saturday night with a feast and a glass of wine to top it off!! It was a great series and we are excited to improve it and continue with plans for the show series in 2009!

A THANK YOU to our sponsors…they make it happen!

September 27 Canadian Warmblood Breeder’s Show – Amber lea Meadows
Since I was still limping around, I enlisted the wonderful help of Quindy, Cheryl and Shelby for the weekend. It’s always fun to bath, clip, braid and load up the youngsters for the first time!
Rialta 4th – 2 year old Mares
Palisade 5th – Yearling Fillies
Rialta / Palisade 3rd – Produce of dam (Warita)

We found this show to be a huge learning experience as we had never shown horses on the triangle, so we took home much knowledge about conditioning and presenting our young horses.

We also took Velvety Smooth Cappaccino with us and we were very proud of her results. She stood out amongst the 5, 6, 7 year old mares. I thought that I was a bit biased, but our neighboring spectators agreed with me full-heartedly!! Chino received an index of 7.16 in her mare inspection therefore winning the 5, 6, 7 year old mare class and qualifying her for the Regional and Provincial Mare Championships in which she received 3rd and 6th respectively.

It was a long day as we still had the Young Horse Class in which Chino was ridden by a test rider, then I managed to ride her successfully through a flat class with my injured leg and finally we chute jumped all the horses. The show finally concluded at 8:30 p.m. with a 5th place! We are excited to take our Harmony Warmbloods out next year as we will be more prepared and ready to show off our great up and coming horses!!

September 2 – 7 Spruce Meadows Masters
Unfortunately I managed to get kicked the Sunday before the Battle of the Breeds competition, so I found myself on crutches for the Masters. It’s difficult to sit on the sidelines, but thankfully Shane Jutti was able to take over the reins for me. So after jumping 3’6” for the first time the week before, Nitro found himself with a new rider with a tall order to fill! He was great – hardly batting an eye at those 3’9” oxers!! Okay so it was a little over his head! Nitro also ran the barrel pattern and showed his willing spirit. A huge thank you to Marvin and Ellen Abbott of Winfield, AB for giving me the opportunity to ride Nitro this summer – it was a pleasure!

August 30, 31 Gillian Sutherland Dressage Clinic – Flying Colours Stables
Chino and I had a great opportunity to ride with Gillian. She hails from Toronto and trains several FEI level horses and riders there. I came away with a new level of intensity to add to our training. I think I finally learned how to truly do a canter transition and the medium trots were incredible! And Chino…she was oh so tired, but always willing. What a wonderful mare!

August 15 – 17 Gold Rush Dressage Show – Amberlea Meadows
Chino is a pleasure to take to a horse show! We started a little shaky in our scores, - a definite result of not having a lesson in three months. Thankfully Lesley came along to give me a few pointers and our scores and overall feel improved immensely. I was quite happy with Chino’s first time out at First Level.
Friday First Level Test 1 – 54.6% 2nd
2 – 58.8% 3rd
Saturday 2 – 65.5% 2nd
3 – 61.1% 1st
Sunday 3 – 62.0% 3rd
4 – 63.4% 2nd

August 10 – 14 Show Camp
It was very exciting to see the changes in each rider’s confidence throughout the week! Through equitation patterns, trail and tons of horse games, each rider finished the week with a great display of their skills. We enjoyed the last evening with swimming, campfire and a camp-out! Another highlight was the trail ride around the cattle pasture on the last day! Good job riders!

August 7 – 9 Vegreville Fair
So HOT! Karlina and I packed up the trailer and headed to Vegreville to pitch a tent and show off our horses. We had a good time, but were all continually grabbing for a water bottle!

July 24 – 27 Vermillion Fair
Not many horses were left at home by the time we set up for the fair this year! Fourteen horses and their riders were entered and Sage Hill made an excellent showing of all the practice that goes into preparation for our summer shows. A very exciting weekend for our riders!!

July 14 – 16 Beginner Horse Camp
With two groups of young riders, we had our hands full with excitement spilling out! I had tons of help from my older girls and the progress made was tremendous! All the riders were able to showcase their talents through games, relays and an equitation pattern.

July 13 It’s a filly!
Warita had a chestnut filly with four white socks and a big diamond this morning! The filly is out of Regardez – a full sister to Rialta. She’s beautiful – we’ve named her Regalia!

July 5, 6 Harmony Horse Show II

May 4 – Harmony Horse Show Series I
We are very excited about our first show of the Harmony series. 32 riders and their crews crowded the yard for a day of competitive classes and great fun. We were able to offer prize money for all the classes due to generous support of sponsors.
A huge appreciation to the following sponsors:

  • Al’s Hotshot Truckng
  • Bee-Gee’s Valves and Controls
  • Bert Duncan Trailer Sales
  • Cowgirl Finesse
  • Norris Ford
  • Quindell Builders
  • Snap-On Tools
  • Sodbusters Homestead
We hope to see even more riders join us for our July show!

April 13 – Vickie Argals Dressage Clinic
Everyone spruced up their horses for this day as the excitement of having my dressage coach from Flying Colours Stables come to Wainwright spurred all to action! We did it right with a wine and cheese the night before on the first warm evening of the spring followed by a wonderful day of dressage. I think the younger riders were a bit starstruck, but enjoyed Vickie’s positive teaching style while the adults can’t wait for her to come back! I had my best ride to date on Chino and Gideon is proving himself more each ride. Looking forward to showing these horses this summer!

April 5 – Amberlea Indoor Jumper Show II
Another early morning heading out into an unexpected snowy travelling disaster. It was a slow trip to and from the show, but Bailey can sure beat the clock in the jumper ring! She loves to jump and I’m very excited to work with her more throughout the summer.
Sherry / Bailey 2’6” Clear Round – Clear round with 2nd fastest time.
2’9” Welcome Jumper – One rail in the jump-off with a time of 41 seconds.
2’9” Speed – Only 2 seconds behind the winner of the class, but again one rail.

March 29 – Amberlea Indoor Hunter Show II
Huge learning curve for the girls – each show develops not only our riding ability, but our character! All three girls enjoyed the improvement in their first division as the horses were quite consistent and steady. Second divisions were a little rough – but that is why they call them schooling shows, right?! Bailey was good – I just don’t think that flying changes are necessary all the way down the seven stride line of a hunter round!
    Shelby/Buddy 3rd – 18” Hunter Equitation
    5th – Hunter under saddle
    Chelsey/Khaly 5th – 18” Hunter Equitation
    3rd – 18” Hunter Stake
    Jenalyn/Kacee 6th – 2’0” Novice Horse Hunter Equitation
    Sherry/Bailey 6th – 2’0” Novice Horse Hunter Stake

    March 25-27 – Easter Camp
Another great camp – brimming with excited riders. Equitation wars, paper mache horses, and the favorite drill teams were all aspects of this year’s camp. We had a great group of riders – it was wonderful to see their improvement over the short time. Our finale consisted of handling the horses throughout trail obstacles, riding an equitation pattern and riding a pattern to music.

March 16 – Kim Eremko Horsemanship Clinic II
Kim returned to push our horses to the next level. We continued with bending exercises throughout some patterns in the morning then moved onto putting together a basic showmanship pattern. Trail was great as we laced 2-3 obstacles together adding in walk, jog, lope transitions. Bob was my horse for the day, whom I may add to the show horse list as my western horse at the open shows – he was a star!

February 24 – Amberlea Dressage Schooling Show I
A very exciting show as it carries a lot of firsts! First time out for Gideon and Chino, first dressage show for Chelsey and first time back in the show ring in a long time for Kjirsten. Also I think we will carry the late night cheesecake tradition on into many more shows!

    Chelsey / Khaly 4th Walk/Trot A – 65.23%

February 17 – Kim Eremko Horsemanship Clinic I
Our clinics are in full swing here this year as well. Kim began with flexing exercises as we isolated each section of our horse and were able to carry the bend with our leg. Then we moved to showmanship after lunch focusing on safe handling of our horses on the ground. In trail we negotiated obstacles such as the walk poles, back through, object carry, box, bridge and the gate. Thanks Kim for a great day!

February 16 – Amberlea Indoor Hunter Show I
Show season has begun – every year we seem to load the horse trailer up a bit earlier and head down the road to see if our winter’s work has paid off. The girls braved their first jumping show and came out with big smiles and the gumption to work harder for the next one! And, of course, I brought Bailey and Kacee along to test their legs over the full courses. Unfortunately we’re a bit rusty and need to get back to the arena for some more practice!!

    Shelby / Buddy 3rd – 18” Hunter Stake
    Chelsey / Khaly 6th – 18” Hunter Equitation
