Battle of the Breeds – Spruce Meadows Masters
It’s tough being on Team Canadian Horse especially when Kacee and I blunder 4 out of the 5 required events!! Wow – it was a tough year for us. Kacee seems to have a serious case of stage fright when it comes to the Meadows on the Greens. But it’s great to be a part of such a great group of people in the Canadian Horse Association. We still managed to have a great time, shop way too much and rub shoulders with all the big-wigs of showjumping. And, of course, dream of riding like Anky! Maybe with a fresh plan of attack and another year under our belts, Kacee and I can redeem ourselves!!

Show Camp – August 13 – 17
With eleven riders, 3 helpers and trusty Kara to ride my horses for the week – we had a full slate of activities! The riders worked on showmanship, equitation, trail and pleasure classes – all which we put together for the parents on Friday. Also the games portion of the afternoon was a big hit with riders building their confidence by getting faster times each day….a little scary for me! We headed for Riverdale for some mini-golf Thursday and returned to play charades and ‘kick the can’! Lots to learn and a ton of fun – hope to see you all next summer!

Dressage / Jumper Camp – July 3-August 3
This camp had 9 riders focused on putting together a dressage test and hunter / jumper courses. The outcome was fantastic as both groups surpassed my expectations during the ‘Showtime’ held on Friday. Our beginner group accomplished fluid Dressage AA tests and with no previous experience jumped an 18” hunter and jumper course. The older 4 riders were put to the test with the finer points of a Training Level Test 4 and higher fences. Pretty exciting to see our upcoming young riders excel – way to go!! Naturally we filled the days with races, theory and challenges. We ventured to Riverdale for some mini-golf and came back for sticky banana boats. There’s nothing better than horse camp!

NE Regional 4-H Camp and Show – July 19-22
I had the pleasure of being invited to teach in Vegreville this week. I instructed all day and brought 3 horses along as well. Kacee and I did a fun jumping demonstration for the 4-Her/s and their parents followed by three days of coaching english equitation, two jumping classes, trail and dressage. I was also invited to judge the show on Sunday – great to see developing young riders!!

Ebon Dressage Festival – July 13-15
Our first ‘A circuit’ dressage show in Saskatoon! Kacee and Chino ventured to the flat land for a great chance to be coached through a show with Vicki Argals of Flying Colours Stables. Chino went for the experience while Kacee went down centerline!

June 2 – Sage Hill Schooling Show II
The hottest day yet this year – our shows seem to fall on extreme weather days!! With 19 competitors, we had a full day of classes. Lots of variety for the spectators and some great competitors on their way. Of course that kind of heat deserves a water fight at the end of the day!

May
A huge WELCOME (and tons of excitement) to our new dressage prospect, Velvety Smooth Cappachino. Chino is a 16.3 HH bay Canadian Warmblood mare out of Vaultair. She is to be a shared junior/open project between Jenalyn and Sherry. Our herd is growing – like they say, you can’t just have one!!

April 29 – Kim Eremko ‘Equitation / Trail Clinic II’
A warm spring day allowed us to work outside where Kim pushed the riders to the next level in their riding and tested us with a straight line equitation pattern which proves to challenge! With a whole course of trail obstacles each rider was able to put together all the elements of a trail course. Thanks Kim for a great day!

April 18 – 22 Vive Las Vegas
World Cup Dressage enticed Sherry and friends back to Vegas to spend some down time and be inspired to work hard towards goals of upper level dressage. The event was grandiose, of course – only Vegas! It was quite educational with instant scoring and watching warm-ups, grand prix, and freestyles of the top riders. Naturally, we took in some shows, poolside lounging and shopping too!

April 10 – 12 Easter Riding Camp
A group of young riders signed up for 3 days of HORSES! Jenalyn was my oldest rider and used the camp as a preparation for future coaching as she helped with tacking up and demos. Picture frame craft, colic and tpr, showmanship obstacles and stall cleaning topped the list of activities. The Finale featured each rider performing a trail obstacle and two drill teams set to music. Good Job, Riders.

April 1 - Beginner Hunter Show II at Amberlea Meadows
We keep climbing the ribbon ladder! And so much fun!

Kim Eremko 'Equitation/Trail Clinic I' - March 25
Kim started all the riders with a refreshment of opening and direct reins and moved into work on transitions using only voice and seat aids - all the horses became so light in our hands!

Trail continued in the afternoon with work on precision through the poles, back through, box, and carrying difficult objects. Kim brought a waiting tone to the work, so the horses would wait for us to give the next step. So helpful - we look forward to being challenged at our next clinic.

Sage Hill Schooling Show I - March 17
Lots of improvements seen from the last show, as well as some excited first time competitors! Thanks to Lesley Farkash for her judging expertise and congratulations to the high point winners who received Sage Hill halters. Thanks for coming out!

March 10 – Dressage Coaches Forum at Flying Colours Stables
Sandy Howard was a very valuable resource as she delivered a clear, concise DVD presentation of correct position and how each change can affect a horse’s way of going. The afternoon was spent applying those principles in great detail – it was exciting to see the changes in each horse from the Training Level horse to the Grand Prix level. Also a great day to collaborate with other Alberta coaches.

March 11 – Beginner Hunter Show at Amberlea Meadows
Another long, but very rewarding day on our horses. Susan surpassed her goals with Tribute, Jenalyn excelled with only 5 jumping rides on Kacee to practice, and Bailey is turning into a little superstar. I’m so proud!
