2006 News
Huge Appreciation to FCS!
I had the opportunity to take Kacee up to Wetaskiwin to work at Flying Colours
Stables for two weeks this December. I learned so much about the workings of
their facility (referred to as the ‘Hilton’ of horse barns!) I was also
able to ride each day and to watch many lessons – I’m excited to be
applying that knowledge to my horses and my lessons. Thanks so much to Reiden
and Vickie for allowing me to follow you around!!
Congratulations to Jenalyn and Susan on successfully completing Equine Canada's
English Rider Level 1. Good job on all your preparation and studying!
Autumn Classic Horse Show

Spruce Meadows Masters
‘A Place to Dream…’ Once again we trekked down Highway 2 for the Battle
of the Breeds with Kacee, TJ, the golf cart, and even the kitchen sink! We
packed everything, prepared for the worst weather. Fortunately we overpacked because it was a beautiful week.
Kacee competed in Jeopardy Jumping, Barrels and Trail. I was happy with
Kacee’s efforts throughout the week. She jumped the course well on a hot
day, but we were all disappointed with the run-out on the jeopardy, she put all she had into the barrel racing coming out with a faster time and tighter turns, and trail…well, we’ve had better days!!
Jenalyn rode TJ in the Paint Horse demos and in Showtimes. What a great job she did as those huge green rings can be quite intimidating, especially when you’re the only one to show up for Thursday’s Showtime!
An amazing highlight of the week was taking in the Anky clinic on Tuesday. Anky van Grunsven just came back from winning the Dressage gold medal at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen. Such great insights and simple explanations and she kept us all laughing! Later her performances in the International Ring impressed thousands!
Once again, a huge thank you to Dale and Lori Myggland of Rocking M Stable for giving me such a great opportunity to compete at Spruce Meadows!
Sage Hill Show Camp
What a week! August 7 – 11 brought together 8 horse-crazy girls for a week of
horsemanship, stable management, health care, and tons of games packed full of
equine education! Thursday night held a campout with the lightning storm as
our backdrop and sticky banana boats for a bedtime snack. Comments on their
favorite things included working with the miniatures, staying on when her horse
bucked, jumping a full course and all the riding! The girls were wonderful in
the mock show held for the parents on Friday, and we must thank our amazing
Meagan for all her help!! Hope to see you all next summer!
Vermilion Fair
What a great show! Jenalyn, Lauren and Daelyn all did so well – It’s quite
fun watching the kids perform. Jenalyn is placing better and better. Lauren is
getting this show routine down and Daelyn is bound to hug you with her new
‘Froggy’!
Kacee is proving very consistent with a 6th is trail, 3rd in 2’9”
Equitation, 5th in Road Hack, and a win in 2’6” Hunter out of 18 horses!
She’s a great horse and getting primed for our second year in the Battle at
Spruce Meadows!
Bailey had so much to take in for a spooky little thing – and she did well.
She got through the 18” course with a 6th place out of 19 horses and came in
5th in the Maiden Horse Pleasure. By the last class of the day, she’d had
enough – but we will keep on truckin’!
Lloydminster Colonial Days
Sage Hill enjoyed the time spent at the Lloyd Fair on July 12 – 15. We took
four horses with us and even decorated our stalls! Kacee and Sherry were out
again riding 2nd place in their Training Level Test 4, and Kacee jumped some
more seasoned rounds with a 3rd and 4th in the hunters and 2nd place in both
the 2’6” and 2’9” jumpers. Her flatwork has become more consistent too
with a 4th in the senior equitation. Sherry also rode Bailey in her first show.
There were a few hiccups, but Bailey settled in well with a 4th in Training
Level Test 1 and a 3rd in Hunter Hack.
Most exciting was watching Jenalyn with her horse TJ and Lauren riding Kal.
Lauren rode in her first show with 4 classes on the agenda. She was a star all
the way through completing her equitation pattern as well as riding in the very
large junior English stake class. Having never placing in Lloyd before,
Jenalyn also came through a winner with two 5th places in her English classes
and a 1st in western equitation. Good Job, Girls!
Sage Hill in partnership with Rocking M Stable (www.rockingm.ca) is excited to
announce the safe arrival of our first Hanoverian mare with her foal at side.
Kerry is gently nurturing our little Harmony to be quite a tall athletic filly,
and she has been bred back to Midnight Justice in hopes of a 2007 foal.
June had Sage Hill on the road the first weekend heading to the CHARMD Show
where Kacee competed against her fellow Canadian Horses in hopes of securing a
spot on the Spruce Meadows Battle Team She performed her best, taking home
Grand Champion Halter mare and a sea of blue and red ribbons! So look for us
at the Masters Tournament on September 6 – 10!
On the way home we stopped in at KLM Stables for their annual show. It was a
challenging day with the mud and rain, but Jenalyn, Daelyn and Sherry all came
home with ribbons and some cash! Congratulations girls.
Sage Hill Summer Horse Show
Sage Hill students presented their horsemanship skills with style at our
in-house Summer Horse Show on June 3. Congratulations to all of you on your
achievements, ribbons and prizes! We had a windy, but excellent day with
classes in equitation, pleasure, dressage, hunter hack, showmanship, leadline,
gymkhana, and driving. The ‘English High Point’ award goes to Amy
Lambright riding Whisper, and the ‘Western High Point’ was awarded to
Jenalyn Myggland aboard T Jets Joak. Both riders received a new saddle blanket
for their grand efforts. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and especially for
the roses!
Easter Riding Camp 2006
We had a great week of sun and warm weather for our 3rd annual Easter Camp held on April 19, 20, 21. A full slate of activities with 9 riders attending. The riders had the opportunity to test their skills at four disciplines: barrels, trail, dressage and jumping. The time off their horses was filled with feeding and care of their horse, anatomy jeopardy, polo wrapping contests, plenty of races, people gymkhana, showmanship, and building their own bridle hanger to take home. The Easter Camp Finale had each rider involved with the presentation of their skills in each discipline as well as an exciting drill routine set to music.
Wainwright Trade Fair
It was great to see all of you at the Trade Fair. We enjoyed sharing our business and services with everyone and meeting so many new people. Congratulations to the winners of our door prize who received a ‘Horse Gift Bucket’ donated by Rocking M Stable and ‘Lessons for a Month’ here at Sage Hill.
Amberlea Dressage Schooling Show II
It’s been a busy week, but we ended it off well with our second dressage show. Jenalyn and Sherry showed the three horses again and came out in the top 6 of each test amongst some great competition. We had a wonderful day with some big improvements. A huge thanks to our always trusty groom, Amy Lambright.
A Busy Weekdend At Sage Hill
March 18 held Sage Hill Stable’s first annual Frosty Farewell Classic, a fun show tailored to its riders. Classes in leadline, showmanship, equitation and dressage kept all the students memorizing their patterns. Gymkhana games were next with barrels, keyhole, delsey derby, bareback race, and the fan favorite, musical chairs. Finishing off with hot chili on a bun, the day was enjoyed by all.
On to Amberlea Meadows for their Dressage Schooling Show. Jenalyn Myggland riding T Jets Joak and Sherry Engerdahl with two mounts, Humeny Fargo Kacee and Tukk For Luck rode three tests. Jenalyn excelled with a third overall in the novice division and finished with a sixth in the Junior Training Level test. Sherry saw huge improvements in Kacee as she brought home a 2nd and two 5th place ribbons, while Tukk started back into showing with flair with a 4th, 6th and a win in the Senior Training Level
Early Success in the Show Season!
March 3 – 5 held a competitively charged field of ambitious riders for the Hunter/Jumper Schooling Show at Amberlea Meadows just south of Edmonton. Sherry rode Humeny’s Fargo Kacee, a 6 year old Canadian mare owned by Dale and Lori Myggland of Rocking M Canadians, in the 2’6” and 2’9” Jumper divisions. Kacee jumped clear rounds in each division coming home with a sixth place in the 2’9” Speed class. Kacee jumps with all heart and never doubts what I ask of her. This show season holds great excitement for the horses and riders of Sage Hill.
